The City of Norman consistently makes Money Magazine’s Top 100 Small Cities list. The city has a strategically placed civic complex that includes City Hall, the Municipal Library, City Planning, City Municipal Courts and the main Post Office. The City of Norman is home to a large university and is also known for its art and music festivals, as well as other leisure activities, sports, and recreation. One of the largest music festivals, Jazz in June, is held in Andrews Park, directly adjacent to the northern edge of the civic complex. Another that has experienced exponential growth is the Norman Music Festival, held on the downtown Main Street corridor directly adjacent to the civic center’s eastern edge. This renovated and revitalized Main Street area is also home to a growing art gallery, theatre, restaurant, and residential community that sponsor a monthly 2nd Friday Art Walk.
Norman is also located in a growth corridor along I-35 that is experiencing extraordinary development in an era of economic recession. Four years ago, in order to meet increasing needs, the metropolitan library proposed a bond issue to build a new facility. The new library vote failed largely due to the intent to move the library from its current location in the city’s civic complex.

Grad Studio 1 (Middle Earth)
This was for an actual client, Middle Earth Daycare in Norman, OK, which was a good experience because not only did we have to design an efficient building, but we also had to consider the cost of building our designs. The clients already had a local architect design a facility for them that did not meet their expectations. The original design looked like a large house, and the client was looking for something different. We had a series of meetings with them throughout the semester to show them our designs and get their input. We derived our program from the original floor plan they had designed, and our gross square footage was way less just by cutting down on the amount of corridor space in the building. The main design of my project was the corridor area. I wanted a single corridor for two reasons. First, I wanted to cut down on the overall building foot print. Secondly, I wanted it for security reasons. You are able to stand anywhere in the corridor and see everything that is going on from one end to the other. The classrooms actually protrude into the corridor space to allow teachers to interact with each other and see what is going on without having to leave their classroom. This also creates a space for the kids to hang their coats and bags and for parents to wait but not block the flow of traffic up and down the corridor area. The client also wanted two main aspects included in their building. They wanted a daycare facility to be able to operate during the day as well as a functional community center for evening events to help raise revenue for the daycare. With my design the community center and daycare area are completely separate. They both come through the same entry door, however, the second door into the daycare facility is locked and only parents and staff who have access cards will be able to enter. This security measure allows for events to occur even during daycare hours. This greatly increases the time the community center can be utilized thus increasing the revenue it could make. I was one of three students chosen to present my final design to the Middle Earth Board Members.

A Stevens Photography
Who are we? A. Stevens Photography consists of my wife (Andrea) and myself (Andrew). She has an eye for the "traditional" shots and poses whereas I focus on the "not so ordinary" shots and just shooting things as they happen. I mainly like to shoot outdoors but will come inside when asked to for things like weddings. I like a good challenge, I have 2 boys who are not shy when the camera comes out. In fact they wait for it to come out so they can start making silly faces. I have learned the necessary skills to photographing children without them realizing there is a camera there, this works for not only my boys but also for children that are shy around a camera.
